Blogging from the sky!!

Well people, I'm on a plane on my way to LA. Yes, that's right, I'm on wifi at 12,000 feet!! How amazing is technology these days?! The only thing that could make this any cooler would be if I were blogging from my iSlate which Apple may or may not announce actually EXISTS at their media event tomorrow. Have you guys seen this video !?! I want! I want!!!

Anyway, I land in LA in a few hours and I have a busy few days filled with Grammy rehearsal's and clothing line meetings. I can't believe it but the 52nd annual Grammys are coming up in just 5 days now. Are you ready? I am... sort of. The last few days I've been thinking a lot about what going to ask the attendees. Do you have ideas? Send me your suggestions if you do and I'll gladly read over them. Anyway, even if I'm not 100% ready, my dress is and its looking great if I may say so myself!!  I'll be posting a video about the "making of" very soon... well, just as soon as I get a free minute to get on iMovie. (Yep. Another Apple plug... you're welcome Steve Jobs!!)

One thing I'd like to ask: If you're not following me on Twitter make sure you do by the night of the Grammys! In between corresponding for ET Canada I shall be twittering my thoughts about what everyone is wearing on the red carpet. You'll not be able to find any more up-to-the-minute  red carpet Grammy information than by following my streaming updates on twitter.com/oh_so_coco - BELIEVE THAT!!!

Haiti: How can we help?

I'm at the airport waiting for a flight and for the last 2 hours I've sat here and watched CNN's continuous coverage on the horrible situation in Haiti. I've kept up with the news these past few days but seeing all this in relentless succession, I just feel sick to my stomach. As I watch the screen I see there are so many bodies being dumped at grave yards without being named and there's just as many orphans roaming the streets with no where to go home to, no one to hold or comfort them. I'm watching as these poor Haitians scramble for the most basic food and medicine. The one beautiful thing in all this chaos is that more and more people are lending a hand and their support, but still, it isn't enough. I want to use my voice on this blog to ask you personally to think about ways that you can help these people. We can't leave it to the next person. We all, as human beings, have a responsibility to one another.

As I fly to Paris tonight I'm going to think about  more ways I myself can help further. In the mean time there are some very good and reputable charities around like yele.org - oxfam.org and doctorswithoutborders.org -  these good people provide us with a number of opportunities to show our support of the effort over there. Take some time to have a look at these sites please and also feel free to leave me a comment about how you have helped or plan on doing so.

Who are you wearing?

Not too long ago I mentioned that I've been asked to correspond for ET Canada covering the Grammy Awards. I've been thinking a lot about what I want to ask the stars. No doubt I'll be asking many of them who they are wearing, but, should they ask me who I'm wearing, for the first time ever I'll get to say.....

I'm wearing myself!!!

Yes, I've decided to wear my very first creation from my new line at the Grammys!!! My team and I have been hard at work getting the dress together these last few weeks. Just this morning we had another fitting and I have to tell you, it has been so wonderful to see the picture in my head find its way into reality.

I don't want to reveal the whole thing yet (I know, I do love to keep you all in suspense) but I'll tease you with this very vague and blurry little photo we snapped this morning. In case you're wondering, we do have a name for the line but we are still working out the standard legal branding issues before announcing that. In the mean time though I've been hard at work on the designs and on this first piece of mine.

Anyway, I hope you all are well and are enjoying your new year. Tomorrow night I'll be at the SUPIMA awards. After the six finalists have presented their collections I've been asked to announce the grand prize winner which is quite exciting. What I like about the SUPIMA competition is that they don't require any entry fee from their contestants and they are really encouraging emerging talent. Should be an interesting night!!

COCO CLONE, SPOTTED!!

Over a year ago I sat for a sculptor who immortalized my likeness in a special series of Rootstein mannequin's. For a while one of these mannequins could be found hiding behind a large plant at Elite in New York. Another of the mannequins stood, dressed in my old clothes in the corner of my moms bedroom... never failing to scare the living daylights out of me every time I walked in the room!! If you're wondering where the mannequin is now, she has been spotted in Toronto along side Twiggy, Agyness Deyn, Erin O'Connor, Tyra Banks and others. Have a look:
